Ways To Celebrate Memorial Day

American flag memorial

Everyone’s three day weekend is underway. Memorial Day is on the last Monday of the month of May each year. This year, it falls on May 30. Have you made plans? Many look forward to sleeping in, laying by the pool, or throwing something on the grill. Although, Memorial Day is far more than a free day off work or start to the summer. As you celebrate, make time to remember and honor the military men and women who lost their lives serving this country. Then, fill your day with these Memorial Day-approved activities.

Make a Patriotic Craft

What better way to show off your American pride than sporting red, white, and blue? If the family enjoys crafts, be sure to add a patriotic craft to the itinerary. Try these vintage Potato Chip Flower Pots or sip through these adorable Stars and Stripes Straws from Country Living.

Get Out in the Yard

It’s play time! Enjoy the warm weather with a few lawn games. Set out the cornhole, throw the football, or enjoy a sack race before dinner is ready. There’s nothing like a little competitive fun! Don’t forget the sunscreen – you don’t want to start the season with blistered skin.

Tour the White House

You don’t have to visit Washington D.C. to take in the historical beauty of the White House. Thanks to whitehousehistory.org, you can take a tour from the comfort of your lounge chair or couch. The kiddos will enjoy seeing all of the unique rooms and the symbolism of past president’s.

Send a Care Package

Don’t forget to honor those who are deployed on Memorial Day. On the Support Our Troops website, you can find information on how to send care packages to troops, including items like gift cards and dried goods. Be sure to include an encouraging letter as well!
