Most people spend hours in their cars each day. From commuting to and from work, hauling kids around town, and taking trips and vacations, car seats get a lot of wear and tear. Every once in a while you may want to clean your upholstered car seats. The cloth interior can get pretty dirty, but luckily most stains are easy to get out. Below are some steps to take for cleaning upholstered car seats!

What You’ll Need for Cleaning

Some items for cleaning are necessary, while others are optional and helpful. Simply stick to the basics, or find items like a commercial carpet cleaner to make the job easier. You may even have some items around your house!

  • Commercial carpet cleaner or mini at-home cleaner
  • Upholstery cleaning liquid
  • Clean water
  • Fabric protector
  • Spray bottle
  • Scrub brush
  • Microfiber cloths
  • Clean sponge
  • Bucket
  • Vacuum with attachments

Getting Started

You will want to vacuum the interior of your car first. Use the attachments for your vacuum to get in the cracks and crevices, and be thorough! The last thing you want is to miss a spot and make scrubbing harder. You will want to follow up with pretreating any stains on the fabric. Use your upholstery cleaner and scrub brush to work the stain. Let it sit for about 15 minutes before moving on to the full cleaning process.

Spray the upholstery cleaning liquid on the fabric and get to work with your scrub brush! Start at the top of the seat and work your way down. Once finished, use a microfiber cloth to wipe away and absorb excess moisture. Repeat each step where needed to get the perfect clean. Let the seats dry completely, about 2 to 3 hours, before using your vehicle. To ensure your seats stay as clean as possible, use a fabric protector.
