The James Monroe Museum and Library, the Kenmore Plantation, the Chatham Manor and other 18th century sites may come to mind when you think of attractions in this area. There’s certainly a lot to see at each of this locations. They all have a history tied to many of the Founding Fathers – they were either owned by or frequently visited by several of them. However, visiting each one of these, it’s important to remember and honor the slaves who lived here and worked here. They were the ones who made these properties possible. For 19th century history, the Battle of Fredericksburg was one of the largest and deadliest battles of the Civil War.
Alum Springs Park
With 34 acres of bike trails, rock formations, lakes for fishing, and picnic tables, there’s no shortage of fun to be had at Alum Springs Park. It’s open from dusk to dawn all year long.
